Fed: G-G tells of "deep cuts" of sadness at military deaths

Governor-General MICHAEL JEFFERY has spoken of the deep personal sadness he feels ..

when honouring Australian front-line troops who've died in the war on terrorism in Afghanistan.

Major General JEFFERY has attended an Anzac Day dawn service at Tarin Kowt .. in the
southern Oruzgan province.

The governor-general .. who ends his five-year term in September .. has presented an
Order of Australia medal for outstanding leadership to Major General MIKE HINDMARSH ..

Commander of Australian forces in the Middle East.

He's also paid special tribute to the four Australian troops who've died fighting Taliban
forces in Afghanistan.

Major General JEFFERY says it's very special for him to spend his final Anzac Day as
viceroy with regiments he'd served with or commanded .. including the third battalion
.. his unit in Malaya.
